Story about Astra Montana

Eco Mountain house Chalet Astra Montana was created with an idea of reviving an old shepherd’s stable in the mountain Stador. The house is ecologically oriented also due to its energy supply, as it stands in an area without public wiring. Filtered rainwater is collected in 8000L reservoir, which is used as sanitary water through purifiers. Main heating of the house is provided by fireplace in the living room. Connected to underfloor heating provides a constant temperature in all season. Electricity is provided with small solar power plant. Everything is planned discreetly and thoughtfully so that many guests do not even notice that the house is energy limited.

“Most of our mountains, better known to us in the Soča Valley, have been abandoned over the years, or have no heirs to take care of them, so they are falling apart. In my opinion, it is a big pity that these mountains are losing their meaning and charm. These mountains, however, represent our lives, our past, our history and our culture. I found my own meaning on the mountain and although I did not deal with livestock farming, after big bureaucratic obstacles, I managed to obtain approvals for the reconstruction of a shepherd’s stable for tourist purposes. Here one can find the peace and meaning he needs in today’s pace of life.

We are very pleased with the fact that most of the work was done by craftsmen from the surrounding areas, thus attracting the attention and positive thinking of many about the meaning of the restoration of the mountains and the countryside.

From the idea to the final implementation, the idea was one and the same, to follow the sustainable development of tourism. This can be seen in the fact that the location, as well as the construction of the house, is built in such a way that we did not drastically interfere with nature, but preserved all the elements of sustainable orientation. In addition we proudly bear the European Eco-label certificat and we are included in Slovenia Green Accommodation scheme.

We are also pleased that we have managed to enrich the tourist offer in the Soča Valley and offer different accommodation. With such and similar considerations, we believe that we will succeed in preserving the natural environment of Slovenia as much as possible. This would protect our natural resources and thus enrich the tourist offer of higher added value. However, we would avoid mass tourism, which does not make sense for the Soča Valley, as well as in Slovenia. Slovenia is advertised for tourism purposes as “Green, healthy, active”, which we want to be reflected in accommodation.”
